Hommage to Ella Fitzgerald – “The First Lady of Jazz” Studio5 International Jazz Quintet A musical tribute to Ella Fitzgerald, the unforgettable First Lady of Jazz. The Studio5 International Jazz Quintet brings together outstanding musicians from France and Germany — all of whom share a close connection to Studio5, the private concert studio of pianist Lothar Kraft in Kißlegg, a meeting place for international jazz artists. French vocalist Valérie Graschaire is one of her country’s most acclaimed jazz singers and professor of jazz voice at the conservatories in Metz and Nancy. Having begun her musical path with piano and organ, she found her voice in jazz at the end of the 1980s and soon achieved national recognition with the album Honky Tonk Women — a tribute to Thelonious Monk recorded with pianist Pierre-Alain Goualch. She has since shared the stage with greats such as Toots Thielemans and Diana Krall, and continues to enchant audiences with her expressive tone and elegant phrasing. Saxophonist Damien Prud’homme combines deep musicality with stylistic versatility. A professor of jazz saxophone at the Conservatory of Metz, he leads his own projects, performs with the Luxembourg National Jazz Orchestra, and tours internationally. Collaborations with Bob Mintzer, Paquito D’Rivera, Joe Fonda, and Randy Brecker highlight his exceptional artistry. Pianist Lothar Kraft, founder of Studio5, has created in Kißlegg one of Germany’s most intimate and vibrant jazz stages. He performs with various formations including HS French Connection, and collaborates with renowned musicians such as Harry Allen, Joe Magnarelli, Rosario Bonaccorso, Anne Czichowsky, Fola Dada, Thomas Siffling, and Gregor Hübner. From Stuttgart, bassist Mini Schulz ranks among Germany’s leading jazz bassists. He studied in Stuttgart, Vienna, Copenhagen, and New York under legends Ron Carter and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, and now serves as professor at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, as well as guest lecturer in Seoul, Sydney, and Paris. French drummer Franck Agulhon is one of the most respected figures in the European jazz scene. A frequent collaborator of Eric Legnini, Bireli Lagrène, and Stefano Di Battista, he has performed with jazz icons Archie Shepp, Lew Soloff, Bobby Shew, and Bob Mintzer. He is professor at the Paris Conservatory and author of the influential Franck Agulhon Drumbook. Together, these five exceptional artists merge elegance, swing, and improvisational fire into a heartfelt homage to Ella Fitzgerald — celebrating her timeless legacy with passion, finesse, and joy. read more... read less
